Independent Theatre Making

Alex ran cult indie theatre company Cartoon de Salvo for 20 years touring nationally and internationally. As ‘one of the UK’s most idiosyncratic of companies’ (Lyn Gardner, Guardian) the Salvo’s garnered critical acclaim including Top Ten Shows of the Year in the Observer and the Telegraph. Balancing artistic risk with genuine accessibility the work nurtured a devoted following, finding a natural home site-located settings - from growing the set on a site-specific allotment piece to pioneering long-form improvisation in theatre in the UK.

Alex stepped back from the Salvo’s to focus on acting and other art-making projects but continues to work with cutting edge independent theatre projects including We Know Not What We May Be at the Barbican Centre and one-on-one outdoor performance piece on a bed (Southbank Centre and Latitude Festival) Everything By My Side directed by Fernando Rubio for London International Festival of Theatre.

She is also working on developing work incorporating her improvisation and writing work with her art practice.
